I stumbled upon a very cool concept art made by the artist Josh Guglielmo for a drone named G.U.S, short for "General Utility System." it was originally designed for the game Vicious Circle. The drone looked cute to me, so I decided to create it with attention to details and quality.
I started by blocking the basic model and figuring out some hidden details and parts from different hidden angles in the concept art. I created mechanical elements such as the thrust-generating engine and inner panels behind the wings. Then I used ZBrush to create the high poly detailed version with cracks, scratches and imperfections, making it look like it had been in battles or damaged during utility tasks.
Returning to Maya, I created the Low Poly model for baking in Marmoset. In Substance Painter i fixed any baking errors, i focused to create a slightly stylized looking textures, adding dirt and color variations. Finally, I went back to Marmoset for the final rendering.
